For those who do not split their tails, how do you get the fat out?

Ya don't.

I have a beautiful Coyote tail that came from a kill about a week ago!  I am trying to help my grand daughter.  I have no clue how to make this work.  My grand daughter is ten and wants me to remove the bone so she can hook the tail to her saddle.  The tail has been in a bag for the past five days.  Can I still use the stripping method described in your post?  Do I need to do anything to the tail before I try to get the bone out (soak it in anything)?  If I am successful, what should I do to the fur to make it last for my grand daughter?

Thanks from a dedicated grand father!

Unless it's been frozen in that bag for the last 5 days that tail is probably ruined. I would expect the hair to fall out of it. Should you get another one, I think Krowtann would be a good way for you to home tan a tail. If you want to give that one a try, go ahead and try pulling it. If you can't get it out that way you could always split it.

I am tanning a gray fox in Krowtann, and I didn't get the tail split all the way to the end, so I used one of these syringes without the needle to inject the tan into it.

It seemed to work good. I'll just do the same with the neutralizer bath.
I'm gonna do the same with the next fox I have without splitting the tail at all.
