Personally I don't care for it, but to each his own.

It's kinda like the argument of high fence vs. low fence.  They're both legal and both sides have their point of view, but the ones telling the other that they are wrong for judging high fence hunters are in actuality the ones who are wrong for judging a perfectly legal hunting means.

If the specimens are taken and/or obtained by legal means then go for it.

I feel the shock and awe of these mounts are what makes the Taxidermist who screams out against the anti's also cross the line where he will turn on his own.  As example, the same person who says a jackelope or squirrel shooting pool is cute will look at one of these creations and say it is disrespectful.  His judgement has been obscured by his taste.

As I said, I would not have one of these morbid creations in my home or studio, but I would and will be one of the first people to defend the people who want to Smiley

MAN, you saved me a LOT of typing.

I wish it had a better name than ROGUE Taxidermy.....maybe Fantasy Taxidermy.  However I think some of that stuff is cool.   Funnily enough I HATE swamp boogers, Jackalopes, deer asses and Sheep Owls.  I find the HORROR animals more acceptable than the JOKE stuff.

I wouldn't put them in my shop but to each his own.

Jim,
I think you are mistaken, you do have one of these in your shop. I have seen it and it scared me !!!!   Just go into your shop and look in the mirror and it is right there  !!!  LOL    Just messin' with ya

Sorry to revive an old topic, if that's in particularly bad taste here (I'm new), but this was one of the most recent topics on rogue taxidermy I found, and I just wanted to put my two cents in.

I think rogue taxidermy can be beautiful and fascinating; there's not many other ways to bring creatures from fantasy/mythology/dreams to life in such a realistic manner, and my heart stumbles a little when I see a well put together griffin or unicorn.

Granted I haven't started into taxidermy yet, so I don't have the background of the people saying it's "disrespectful", but while well done "normal" taxidermy can be beautiful, I can see those animals alive as well. It's a lot harder to find a living basilisk, and I look forward to putting as much effort, love, and detail into any "rogue" creation I might make as I'm sure you do with your catches, and I don't see how someone could find a lack of respect in that endeavor.
