What do you do with a 180" deer with a 16" meat measurement? Just curious.

If they leave enough meat, I measure the meat - that's what was under the skin, and the form last time I checked, went under the skin. Have had zero problems with the fitting back like it should. The skin measurements sometimes do give me problems.

I'll build them whatever rack they want for the right price, LOL, but I refuse to make the neck bigger than what it was. Is that a double standard? Oh well, LOL.

LOL, yep that sounds like a Texas deer. If he had a 16" neck in life, he'll have a 16" neck in his afterlife.

Another thing you have to take into account is the tanning process. More correctly the shaving process...how thin do you get them? I know many do not own a fleshing machine & are mounting a thick skin. Also some tanning methods produce a more relaxed stretchy skin than others. One way isnt going to work for everyone. After you gain experience you should know what to expect your tanned skin to measure & stretch.
I have never had a customer tell me to make the neck smaller or to be careful & not make it a little bigger. It seems in deer necks & some other things bigger is better.

which creates a soft look.....which is much harder to pull off with a skin stretched to the max..........same reason we align the brisket and taxi the neck skin up a little

" Hi, my name is Kurt and I'm....I'm.....I'm a tanned skin measurer."

I guess why not mount it with the biggest neck possible?  Measureing the tanned skin damn near garuantees a good fit.  Shampoo'd and back brushed with 100 psi of air will give you the soft look.  Sometimes I measure the neck JUST to see the difference after tanning.  But my order will be placed based on the tanned skin measurement.
