I am far from opening up my own opperation and setting up a real shop, but I was just wondering if you had to be licensed to have your own business? Just a thought that came to me. Thanx

If you plan on charging people to do taxidermy work you need one.
As far as practicing goes I believe it's different from state to state so I would contact your state DNR and ask them. Doing it in an email would be best so you have the email itself as proof in case you run into problems down the road ;)

I believe if you are in Ohio you dont need a taxidermy license but do need a fed. I.D. number.
Just across the line in Indiana you MUST have a license...Contact your DNR just to be safe but Im 99% sure Ohio doesnt require one

The Ohio/Indiana thing is weird....I live on the state line....My town is divided by the yellow line on the road...
Ohio fireworks are illegal but across the street there is a fireworks warehouse...Ohio you can bait deer and Indiana you go to jail for baiting deer...
Ohio you get a ticket for pot and Indiana you go to jail for 30 days for a seed...Ohio bars close at 2:00am and then they walk across the street to drink for another hour.
Ohio you cannot smoke in any public establishment including bars and in Indiana you can smoke whereever you want...
Up until a couple years ago...No hunting on Sunday in Ohio but across the street you could.....STRANGE!!!!

Thanx alot for the advice everyone. I know there are a couple people round here who dont have a license, but you know how that goes, some follow the rules and some do not, but those who dont will have to pay. Always good to play by the rules, especially in business.
