There are two ways that I know of #1 Black Dye #2 Shoot a better bear.
#2 is the best.

sounds good...

Most bears would resist someone spraying dye on them prior to being shot, so I guess I'd go in the order of shoot the bear, then use hide dye. Wear rubber gloves as it makes a mess and is hard to get off (ask any bear).

Since some old fart has the comedy bits under control, I'll try to stay serious,
if these rub marks aren't terribly large, and the hair around them is
thick, you might consider cutting them out and sewing.
something else that works great on bear(and other critters) is the
"bald head spray" made famous on infomercials several years ago. it's
basically a paint with a filler added, that does actually work as advertised. it will thicken areas with thin fur. you do have to seal it with hairspray or semi-gloss spray, or it can rub off.

if neither of these options suit you, then do what old fart said, and use dye.(I agree with pacemakr, make sure the bear is dead first)

Good Luck,
Dave

hope Yox read that

Daves advice is sound, But May I add if the area is large, Find some scraps of bear hide as large as the rub area. cut the rub out, then sew a patch into the area making sure the hair goes in the sane direction. carefull sewing using a baseball stitch from the inside out will leave the repair all but invisable. Damn, I just KNEW Id get dragged into this one...

I know, you guys just cant resist getting me on these bald posts. Actually, I AM using that spray for bald spots, guess I chose the wrong color (flesh). Ill try hair color next time...By the way, if you decide to mount a rubbed out bear, which I wont, I would sit that customer down before sewing other hide to repair it. All black isnt black. Some black hair fades at a different rate than others, so get his permission and make him understand first. Personally, I choose to speak to my customers about choosing the bear to shoot PRIOR to his hunt, when at all possible. Id rather not take in a job like that, you couldnt come out too well with it, anyway. Good luck with the good advice you were given, and whoever NAIR was, I hope you look like me someday...soon! Ha ha ha!

Thanks for all the help.
