Shed antler mounts

Submitted by Troy on 8/18/00. ( ) 216.140.24.90

I have a customer that found a large set of elk sheds. He wants the mounted on a panel as an antler mount. I don't really want to go to the expense of using the "shed connection" to attach the sheds. Is there a better way that isn't so expensive for an antler mount?

Thanks guys!

Mounting sheds

Troy,
For this job, I would take a small section of 2x4, build up a bed of fiberglas resin on top as an antler base and set the first antler in the position you like. After it hardens, proceed to the second antler following the same steps. After both antlers are positioned, remove them from the base, drill a clearence hole for a lag bolt, through each base you just created. Drill a pilot hole for the lag bolt into each antler (make sure you use a long enough bolt for sufficient strength), put your antlers back on the base and bolt them down. Now you can knock off the corners of your base or shape it any way you need, to fit under the cover you choose to use.
Hope this helps.

Excellent method detailed by Mark. The only thing that I do differently, is to add an additional 3" screw drilled to run parallel with the lag screw through your support into the antlers. Keeps the antler from "turning"
