What's the best solution for fish skins

Submitted by Ken on 9/3/00. ( Tarpon01@aol.com ) 205.188.208.203

I'm getting ready to mount my first fish (large mouth bass). My father in-law use to be a taxidermist but has not done any work in about 15 years. He said that he used denatured alcohol to soak his fish skins, is there a better solution to use now a days or is this still a good technique?

Look under the fish category, the two threads that were started yesterday (9/2) should answer your question.

Good Luck

Ben,

Would you mind elaborating just a little on your method?
I'm kinda curious.

I use a 10 mol borax you can get at a chemical co. if you live in a bigger city and mix with about 2 shots of pine sol. Mount fish put in front of a fan overnight and have had great results for 8 years mounting about 75-100 fish a year.B.
