You didn't mention it, but this site's sponsor sells one of the largest selections of premixed airbrush paints available. It's called Polytranspar and you can buy it in water based or lacquer.

Which is best?

For all kinds of head finishing I would go with hydro-mist which is water based. Life tone lacquer based for all fish painting.

I would recommend hydro-mist. there are a few more colors available in lifetone, but hydromist is much less hazardous.---no solvents or dangerous fumes (you still should use a vent fan though).

Polytranspar is a decent alternative, but I certainly wouldn't say it's a better one. either system works fine.

Good Luck
Dave

Life Tone

I have used both hydromist and lifetone. I started with hydromist, and I found it difficult to use. I had trouble with my airbrush staying stopped up. I realize that laquer based paints are more hazerdous, but they are a lot easier to use as far as I am concerned.

There are many good paints out here today. The above posts are true in what they say. I personally like Polytranspar. It works great and have never had any problems.
There is also another paint called wildlife colors from WASCO. Their paint has many colors also. You need to try the paint. We can tell you what we feel is best but you need to choose. As you can tell many of us have different choices already.

Know matter which you choose, it will take a little getting used too.laquer dries faster, but if your painting more than one fish or deer head ect. it won't make any differance. Water based paints do clog easier, but if you learn how to thin your paints, its not a problem. I prefer the water based paints, even for fish. You can produce award winning mounts with either paint you choose. I personally don't like blowing all that good a/c or heat right out the window. Beleave me, it does make a differance in the ellectric bill. Just another opinion!
