I have always wanted to learn the art of taxidermy, but never really had the time. My new work schedule has blessed me with extra time, but still do not have time to attend a school. Have gotten mixed reviews on "at home training", but this seems the only way for me to attain this goal. So if anyone could help, please give me some feedback on instructional methods, be-it written or video type. And also, is their an organization here in West Virginia that could help me with my dream?

robin, it's wonderful to see you promoting WASCO and the great videos and learning tools they have to offer us. HOWEVER, the supply co. you ceaselessly deem to mention is of no value to any of us due to their criminal exertions. I prefer not to associate with thiefs and I really hate to extol the [nasty icky supply company]s non-existent virtues on some unexpected newcomer to the taxidermy world. You are greatly appreciated in help you offer but the constant referral to the [nasty icky] is to me somewhat of a slap in the face to everyone here, and this great taxidermy site.
I feel that the only way you're going to learn the finer points of taxidermy is under a proven taxidermist. Search the area for a couple of taxidermists that do good work. Talk to people and look at what they charge. Usually this is a good scale for measuring their quality. Then, talk to them. I would bet for the right price one would be willing to take you under his/her wing. Videos are okay, but you're not going to learn the intricacies that a good teacher can convey. Lastly, spell out in writing what you're getting for your money.
Sonny: a friend of mine took up taxidermy as a hobby. She hooked up with a taxidermist on line and he has given her a lot of help on line. She tells me he has about taught he to do it all and they have never met. you might try to email him and see if he has any advise for you his email address is mountintax@aol.com good luck
