I'm currently a postgraduate fine art student at Goldsmiths College
London and need advice to complete my new piece of work, for which I
need to construct a dying rabbit/hare caught in a snare complete with
eye and chest movement(breathing).
I am new to taxidermy so any tipps and advice would be much appreciated
Thanks Neil.

If you are new to taxidermy, let me suggest a more acceptable mount. Believe me when I tell you that I most certainly am not trying to come across as a female dog, nor am I trying to stir up the hornets nest. I'm not sure why you chose a dying rabbit in a snare, but most would fine this repulsive, let alone to have it moving in the last moments of death. People have a tendency to get out of control angry at this sort of thing and also lean more towards the "full of life look"......Now, as I stated earlier, I am only giving you a fair warning since you said that you were new to taxidermy and thought you might like to know this. I am in no way trying to tell you how to do your artwork, only a nudge in the ribs on how you might "not" want to do it. I wish you the very best of luck and success.
What animal rights group are you with Neil? I've got a good nose, and I smell propaganda!........Brian
with leanna and brian something ain't right here.
Why not in a bobcats mouth or fox?leave trapping out of it!
The anti's have enough ammunition. Don't give them anymore. I agree with Brian, mount one in a fox or bobcat mouth. That would look alot more natural than a grizzly scene of an animal trying to catch it's last breath. Do taxidermy a service and do art that is going to promote the industry, not take away from it.
In Leanna's reply, she says that people might find this replulsive. I think that might be the very reason for this person wanting to do this mount. As soon as I read it, I thought of the British artist Damien Hurst. You may remember him as the guy who cut a whole cow into about 10 slices and had the pieces in liquid filled tanks arranged so that it looks like the cow is still standing but with spaces between the sections. He also did one of a whole hog that was cut down the center and both parts were also mounted in liquid filled tanks that moved back and forth next to each other. Anyway, his "art" is meant to offend and be shocking. Sounds like we have a new "damien hurst" in the making. On the other hand, animal rights are a big issue in Britian , with lots of supporters and this just may be a new propaganda piece. Glad it sent up warning flags. It looks like we finally found something that we ALL agree on.
Has anyone heard of the bill of rights? We may have soundly trashed those Brits in the 1700's, yet we all live in the same world now. We fought for the right....
Now we choose to exercise that right. Of course we don't want someone who chooses to dissagree to have the same option. I'm not for the antis' as you call them, but they do have their rights. If Neil in one of "those", then we will face that when he has had his say.
My advice to Neil is this, buy yourself a couple of small airpumps, some tubing, and contact the best Taxidermist that you can find. You might also want to find an MIT grad to provide the mechanics.
If your looking for help from us Neil read the pevious postings.
That is our right.
I tried to stay away from that for two days. I guess I just have the spirit of the Olympics within me. Anyone else going to go into Olympic Withdrawl when the weekend is over? Need a 225+ P&Y Whitetail to get me through it.
I do not agree with you David,
I don't read anything in the bill of rights that says we should help
this fruitcake.
I don't care if Neil is an Anti, an Artist, a Taxidermist, or just a pervert. He entitled to no help from us.
The idea that we should aid our enemies is absurd.
It is our "right" to tell this misguided fool to take a hike.
That's what the bill of rights guarantees.
While it is YOUR right to help him, I find it rather offensive that you would do it on this forum.
Dave
Dave, I agree with you. Read again please. I said it is his right. I gave him a senerio and then in my own way told him to kiss off. Or did I read the previous postings incorrectly?

I have to agree with the rest of you in saying that I was
instantly alarmed with his idea. My first thought was of wich
one of the anti groups is he sapporting. As an avid hunter
and trapper myself along with the rest of us who injoy these
favorite pasttimes do not need to feed any anti groups. It
would look very bad and will only add fuel to the fire that they
already have burning way to hot for my likeing. No taxidermists
I know would ever think of doing such a tasteles mount.
Sorry if " anyone else " misinturpreted my post on this subject.
One of my hobbies is writing. Maybe you guys will check out my
fantasy novel, if I ever get it finished. Bout 90% finished.
I'll keep you posted. I'm 44 years old, ready to retire, let my
family take care of the business ( When I'm gone ) and become a
world wide hunter.Pray for the book and you might not have to
read my words on this forum. Not! Guess now that I've found
Taxidermy.net I'll stay as long as you guys & gals let me.Guess
I'll need a laptop. You figure thay have computer terminals in
the Zimbobwen bush?
