ear liner/mannikin fit?

I'm working on my first whitetail shoulder mount and have a question about the fit of the ear liner to the mannikin. I'm using liners with butts and also a mannikin that has a small butt formed on it. Are these products designed to work together or do I need to trim off a portion of the the e.l. so it doesn't stick out too far? The ears will be positioned forward. thanks, Mark

..I leave the butts on the earliners, and use the butts molded on the form as a guide for setting my ears in the correct place. Then I use reference photos to make sure that the ears look natural as far as location and size.
Also, before I slip the earliners into the ears, I put a small bit of clay long and over the edges of the liners. It helps keep the liners from ripping the ear, as well as gives a softer looking edge to the finished ears.
Good luck!

I believe Mike says to align the bottom of the ear butt muscle with a line LEVEL with the front corner of the eye,and the top of the ear butt muscle aligns with an imaginary line drawn from the front corner of the eye to the rear corner of the eye.
Since you want your deers ears forward ,put a small set of wrinkles in front of the ears and lengthen the area(slightly) behind the ears to show how those muscles actually work.
Do the opposite to show rearward facing ears. Anyway the older the deer the more pronounced the wrinkles appear, you get the idea.
