It seems to me from reading some of the posts that one process involves using one or two "bottled" chemicals, while the other involves using several chemicals and making sure the solution is proper PH?

You have many options here. There are pastes on the market that you just rub in, or you may choose what is called Liqua-tan, or even EZ-100.
I would suggest you try Rittel's. He carries many different tanning products that work well for the wanna-bees.
Or get a hold of Mark at Knobloch's. Both of these guys have some of the best stuff that I like to use. Just click on there names or check out there sites here.
Then you don't have to worry about anything.
Hey Justin, Try using one of Rittle's EZ100 tanning kits. Simple to understand and produce a very well tanned hide.The kit comes with everything you'll need but the salt. Good luck
