stuffing

I am mounting a Widgeon. I have seen a friend stuff some cotton in a ducks chest, but it looked oversized in the chest area. In a standing duck, how much cotton should be used? How much is too much? Does a pheasant require cotton or just the form itself. Thanks!

replace an amount equal to the size of the craw

Christian, What you watched your friend do with cotton was replace the craw with cotton batting. I do it on all birds, you should take care not to over do it but the "store bought" forms represent the bird body only, not the craw. By replacing it with an equal amount of batting you'll acquire a nice "rounded" breast shape. You'll find that with time and experience you'll use different amounts with different poses and species but I do believe it makes a difference, Best of luck to you with your duck. Have a safe and joyous holiday, Kristoph
