Bass needs to be redone!

Submitted by Robert cain on 12/13/00. ( rjmrcain@msn.com ) 63.25.200.178

I am in the process of mounting a large mouth , and the fish is now dryed and the fins are set, the eyes are not in yet. I don"t like the way the head looks, mouth to open and the cheeks have air pockets in them and they are not full of filler. I was wondering can I rehydrate this fish , and reset the head andwork on the cheeks some more or is this fish a lost cause? Any suggestions, Bob.

I one heard that a guy did do this to some extent and work out. It was not perfect but it worked. What do you have to lose.

You can do it. just rehydrate it and start over. you can easily change almost anything at this stage, except for drastic stuff like swapping forms, etc.

Good Luck
Dave

I've had to do this before. If all you want to change is the head just submerge the head in a bucket of water with a small amount of lysol concentrate and let it sit for at least 4 hours. Don't rush this stage the skin is very easily torn until completely rehydrated. Before placing the head into the water drill some small holes into the mache, through the eye socket to aid in hydrating the mache. Be very careful with this step or you'll be repairing an eyesocket.
Speaking from experience, it's a little tough but good results can be achieved if you don't get in too big a hurry.
Good luck.
John
