i read and looked at alot of pictures in books but never really said how to do the lips and eyes of a deer. do you sit there with a scapel for a hour or so and split the lips and work around the eyes or is there a easier way to do this and save time?

That is probably the best way to begin to do it. Your first try will probably take more than an hour, it did for me anyway. Make sure the lips dont dry too much, if so just lightly spray them with a squirt bottle of water. On the eyes, make sure to split all the way to the eyelash roots, but dont cut into them. If you are serious about taxidermy you must read,read,read and study,study..........Good luck
THats right all of it, then you will thin down the skin to about half of the former thickness. eyes right to the end of the little glands removing them. Nose should be done until you start to see the pattern from the front side, it will be very black on the back side you are working on./
