i have some deer hides that i'm doing "economically" since i'm doing them for fun.
I have rittle pro oil, but am going to save that for my nice hides. as an alternative, i know you can use neets foot oil. i'm not clear on the ratio of oil to warm water for deer skins.
i tried the search, but couldn't find anything.
thanks
chris

Just plain Neatsfoot oil don't work as a tanning oil! It's great for shoes - but it's not intended to penetrate and discolor your socks! It's only intended as a "surface" oil. However - if youre using a Sulphonated or Bisulfited Neatsfoot oil then you can add water to it and you will get good penetration. However, you need to contact the supplier of your oil for the recommended ration of water to oil.
