Just looking for a little advice/help on how to finish the ears on my
whitetail mount. The ears currently have a brown appearance due to the
paste that holds the ear liners to the ears. I would like them to be the
more natural white color. Should I use oil or water based paints? How
should the paint be applied? I am looking for any suggestions or ideas
on how to improve the appearance of the ears or other little tricks that
may be helpful. This forum and all those who read and contribute help
in the form of suggestions or answers is extremely valuable to those of
us who like to dabble. Keep up the good work! Skeeber

Im just a begginer but I was told to use water base paint it is easer to cleamn out of you airbrush and it is easer to clean of the hair to. maybe that will help you
Use a basecoat of fungicidal sealer(masking tape the hair out of the way for this procedure) and follow with off white and a light dusting of flesh. Depending on how dark the edges of the ear are, sometimes I will spray the edge with dark brown blending to the white-flesh. The hair can be cleaned with a toothbrush. Then I seal the paint with satin topcoat.
You will find some more info on this subject. I remember on way mentioned to color the glue
you use to glue in your earliner. But you will have to look it up to find out for sure.
My memory is not that great.

Yea, if you put about 2 drops of paint (Mars Red is what I use) into the earliner glue (I use Apoxie Smooth) it will show through. Also, the ears on a live deer aren't white, actually. They're pink. Most people think they're white since a dead deer's blood flushes from the ears immediately, leaving them white. Try looking closely at hunting pictures of live deer and you'll see the pink.
