I am prepping a black bear for a rug and I've skinned it, turned the ears, and split the lips. I've removed all the meat off the hide but there is still a considerable amount of fat still on the hide. My question is this, do I need to remove all this fat or is that something the tannery will take care of?

The salt will not penetrate through all that fat and dry the hide properly. You may end up with alot of hair slippage. Get off as much of it as possible and salt the skin well, allow to drain and resalt. I like to hang skins over wood poles and run a fan on them to get them to dry when weather is humid or if i want it to dry quicker.Good luck!
