I recently mounted my first bison and used [a supply company] preservative. You were lucky to have a flesher handy, I used the same knife i use to flesh my whitetails. Took me nine hours. If the skin is thin enough the preservative will work. The bison i mounted was actualy a beefalo. They cross a bison with a longhorn steer and what comes out is a beast of a bison. The sheer measurments on the head where so large i couldnt find a form big enough. The problem with the throte inscision shouldnt be a problem. The bison should have a beard in wich you can easily hide any stitchwork. Use plenty of t-pins to hold lip tuck and push them in deep enough so they may be left in permanently. Pay atention to areas like around the horns. Use killer glue around the horn bases and tack them down good. Dry preservative on skin this thick realy REALY shrinks alot. One more thing. Clean the hide with lisol and soap, rince good, and as soon as you can, dry the hide as well as posible. My bison took so long to dry that it began to stink a little. good luck
