I HAVE A FINISHED FLESHED AND SALTED BISON CAPE. DUE TO ITS SIZE AND THE FACT IT IS NOW ROCK HARD, WHAT IS THE EASISET WAY I CAN GET IT SOFTENED SO THAT I CAN FIT IT IN MY TUMBLER AND MOUNT.
PS---I PLAN ON DOING A DRY PERSERVE METHOD SINCE ITS FOR MY SELF.

I think your best sending it out to a tanner. Thats one BIG mamma of an animal to deal with yourself! Talk about alot of shaving to do. If you do figure out a way to rehydrate it yourself, i would say NO NO NO to dry preserve, as the skin is very thick and dense. You may break your back trying to shave it down! Hopefully others will give you helpful advice on this, and in any event GOOD LUCK- ya need it!
What you can do is use some RELAX R that we make and use about
2 to 3 oz to each 5 gallon solution. Soak the skin in this
solution, sometimes if the skin is to stiff then what you can do
is mix some Relax R in a 50/50 solution and paint it on the
flesh side, fold in half and let set for about 2 hours then
place back into the solution till pliable. I also would
reccommend that you do an acid pickle to shave the hide and
then tan with a complete tan, to do this you can use LIQUA TAN
OR PARA TAN with one of our oils. You will need to pickle to
help you shave this. If you would like a free tanning book to
do this get me your address. Mark
