I have been attempting to perfect my hand at taxidermy for the last two years. i am now confident enough to accept outside work. i have a lot of respect for awsome taxidermy work and i feel i have what it takes. i realise that your work will speek for its self if good and business will come my way. Is there any other suggestions one could give to help bring about more business. (what would be good ways to advertise)
suggestions needed
thanks.

Pittenger,
1) Get 200 business cards made and give them to everybody you know
that hunts or fishes
2) make up flyers with color photos and display them at marina's &
sporting goods,etc.
3) Yellow pages ad
4) Wildlife display of your work at sporting goods store
5) send out 1,000 brochures with photos of your work, black and
white will work to save you money
6) Display a game head at your meat locker w/cards
7) Display a fish at the boat dealership w/cards
8) Send out letters with lots of pictures and prices to outfitters...
If you send out 30 you will get 2 responses....but that can be a
good deal of work.
9) Do the best quality work at a fair price and stay persistent,
it takes 3 to 5 years to build up a good business.

Things to expect from the above:
1) that your competitor will go into the Wal-mart, steal your cards
and throw them away
2) that your competitor will bad mouth you and say that it's not
necessary to tan skins
3) that your competitor will already have a deer head up at the meatlocker and will cut his price when you put yours up..or he will
give a kickback to the owner to keep you out of the place
4) that the yellowpages will bring priceshoppers that you don't want
5) that the store display can be a lot of upkeep and at christmas your mounts will have santa hats on them...and that store display will bring in from 2% to 5% of your total business

With all that said: WORD OF MOUTH is your best advertisement.
Good luck
I really appreciate the response given. I plan on doing alot of what you suggested. Thanks abounch
Likefish, let me congratulate you on offering one of the best responses to a beginner I have ever seen. Too many answers are vague and few really answer in depth and leave a beginner bewildered.I can see by your answer that you have been-there-done-that and if he follows your advice he's sure to succeed.Good luck Pittenger...JL
