flat wings

Submitted by David on 3/13/00. ( louped@epenergy.com ) 204.149.21.4

I've mounted several pheasants and a few waterfowl. The mounts come out real good, but the feathers of the wings appear flat. Is there any other means to card the wings, where as to have a more natural appealing look. Any suggestions out there, Thanks.

Tape

It sounds to me like you may be using cardboard or something similar to card the wings, wich is making them flat. Try cutting or tearing masking tape into thin strips and use that to keep the feathers in place. It doesnt take much tape, and it does'nt damage the feathers when you remove it. I place the tape on the back of the wings, and on any unruly feathers that need to be controlled. Good luck.

tape is great even really cheap clear packing tape does not stick on the wings. I have also stuffed pieces of cotton on the wing bones then wrapped that in thread to stuff the wing area on larger birds. I don't cut my wings at all, I just pull the bone and meat through and add the cotton etc before putting the wing bones back in the wing itself. good luck.....practice makes perfect. Pat

Use cardboard fron cereal boxs or a little bit heaver cut into about 2 to3 inch strips one on top and one on bottom and pin through from one to another this you will be able to form into a nice contour
