legs split on my raccoon

recently I purchased a raccoon that was suitable for lifesize when I received the coon it's legs were spilt trough the pads of the feet my question is Is this standard practice for furbears to be tanned this way do most pro's have them tanned like this and sew them thanks to any one who can answer my questions

I always keep the pads intact, and skinning them that way can be done, but some find it too hard and just split, esp. on really big coon. Don't worry about it, you can sew them together, then later when finishing, apply sculpting epoxy over the seams, blend and texture, and paint the pad color back in. If the coon is on all 4's, you may only need to repair what is exposed. Good luck!
