Competitions & Conventions

This past weekend I competed in my first competition and attended my state association's convention. All I have to say is it was great!!I entered two mounts, a lifesize mammal and a gamehead, in the amateur division and scored a 1st and 3rd. I thought this was great, but what was even better were the seminars! In 2 1/2 days I sat through 7 seminars and gained a wealth of information! It was just great, I can't wait to get to next years convention. If anybody out there has had any doubts about joining your state association don't doubt it anymore! The cost of the dues would not come close to paying for the education you will receive at these seminars and also the competition. I really enjoyed the judges critiquing my work after they scored it and telling me how to improve the quality of my mounts. And the people you meet at these conventions are the best!, they are some of the best taxidermists in the business, and they are willing to help you and answer your questions. I rambled on long enough, so in closing all I can say is join today and get started on your competition pieces!

You didn't say which state convention you attended, but I haven't ever gone to any that I didn't enjoy and come away with something positive. Glad you had a good time and thought it was worthwhile. Congratulations on your accomplishments in the competition. You evidently have the right attitude and enthusiasm. Keep at it!
