mini-flesher vs. full size flesher

Submitted by David on 3/26/00. ( ) 152.163.188.166

I'm sure this has been addressed before but I failed to find it. What are the pros and cons between a mini-flesher and a full size fleshing machine? I do a few whitetails but mostly smaller critters but I want something that will hold up and something that will work. I do know mini-fleshers are cost effective for my budget but, again, I want something that will work and help me do a good job. Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure you experienced guys and ladies get tired of the same routine questions but this is my main learning source by going to the people who have been there.

Which mini flesher are you talking about?

Are you asking about the hand held mini flesher? Or are you asking about
the Dakota V from Van dykes? I have both of those. It takes a pretty good
while to flesh a deer completely with either of these two. I wish
I would not have worried so much about my "budget" and went ahead and
purchased the large flesher. It would be so much faster with the large
one.

David:
I tried them all, and settled on using a wire wheel type flesher when I saw one demonstrated at a show quite a few years ago. It will do a great job on just about anything from ermine to bison, birds, reptiles, and even fish, and you can build one yourself for comparitively little cost. This type of flesher provides quite a few other benefits which I won't go into here, but if you would like more information, call me at 218-729-8452 Mon-Fri, 9-5 CST.

Wire Wheels

David, Like Larry, I made one with the wire wheels from Research (2" and 3") using a variable speed drill. Works pretty good if you are on a tight budget. Good Luck.
