I ordered a skunk and 2 ermine hides that have been tanned. Do I need to do anything to them before I mount them? I've always just skinned, fleshed, and used DP. Never had a pro-tanned specimine. (That probably sounds dumb!) But any info would really help guys! I already searched the forum for answers.
Just like getting a Professionally tanned Deer cape from the Tannery - soak it in cool water for 30 minutes, adding a handful of salt per each 1 gallon. Then take them out dripping and put them in a plastic garbage bag, tie it off - then refrig it overnight. The next day they should be soft and relaxed. Then open the lips, and around the eyes, turn the ears, and using a skife knife go over any thick areas, and pare the nose. Good Luck.
