I'm not to sure if this is the right place for this question, but here it is.
I was wondering if anyone knows why Alaska does not have a state association?

thanks
john

John,
Better check again. Alaska has just formed our newest state organization that is 100% affiliated with the NTA. Click on the "Taxidermy Net Home" link above. Then go to the "NTA" website and click on "Chapters". It will not only show you that there is an organization, but will tell you who to contact and a phone number to call.

Though you didn't bring it up, I'll offer this anyway. It may not even pertain to you, but it certainly does to many others. There is always a lot of bad mouthing and carping about the national organizations. I tend to think most taxidermists are happy only when they bitch about something, and this is a perfect venue. If you pride yourself and your work, you owe it to yourself to become a member of SOME organization. You don't HAVE to compete, but you certainly need the interaction with peers so that you can keep abreast of what's going on in our industry. The information gathered just in the comraderie and bull sessions can save you years of aggravation and frustration. No matter what your difficulty, you'll find that somewhere, someone has been there before you. From a persoanl aspect, I've spent 43 years in this line of work, but most of that was in the "closed shop, secretive" world where you'd get thrown out of a shop just for asking a simple question. In the last 10 years, I've probably learned twice what I knew in the previous 30. This is a direct result of going to shows and comps and meeting and talking to other taxidermists. Jump in, there's a world of knowlegedge out there and it can only make you a better taxidermist.
