Makeing turkey a dull color?

When painting a turkey head how can I get a dull color and
not a shiney color, I've been useing a lacquer paints and
have tried adding power to dull the finish, but with not much
luck. Thanks for your help.

Matte Finish

Get some clear matte finish and spray the head with this. I will dull it the right way and make it look more natural. You can also put on a brown wash to dull it.

A matte finish will work to a agree. I have found when using laquer paints that mixing a "flattening agent" to the color will really do the trick. Life tone makes some and it doesn't take much to get the flat , no shine appearence. You can also try using some waterbase colors. They do dry with less of a shine. Sounds like you have a great eye for attention of detail. I see alot of turkey heads done by seasoned taxidermist, that shine like Rudolphs nose!! Keep that attention going it always pays off ..


No shine at all

I've always been of the belief that a strutting gobbler's red wattles are shiny. The rest of his head is dull, but we are in our season now and I'm seeing some shiny red caruncles at the base of the head. Am I wrong here?
