Milton

I rub on a little Scott"s liquid Gold. If the customer wants a little more shine, I will hit them very lightly with a gloss.

A NICE LOOK

MILTON, I HAVE HAD EXCELENT LUCK WITH WD-40. YOU CAN SPRAY IT ON A RAG AND WIPE IT ON THE ANTLERS. I TELL MY CUSTOMERS THEY CAN RECONDITION THEM THAT WAY ONCE A YEAR OR TWO. I ALSO USE WD-40 FOR ALL MY HORNS, PRONGHORNS, RAMS AND AFRICAN. ON THE HORNS, I SPRAY IT DIRECTLY ON THEM AND LET THEM SOAK A FEW DAYS BEFOR I MOUNT THE HEAD. TRY IT, YOU WILL LOVE IT.

thats funny !

I've never done any taxidermy before, but have a second hand store and have totally decorated it like a lodge with all sorts of furs and mounts on the walls. Whenever I get a new one, I do my best to fix it up and clean it as well as possible (most of them I get cheaply, because they're old, and I'm poor!) When I got finished vacuuming my deer mount with the shop vac to remove the dust (he looked much better) and touching up the eyes and nose with a black pen, and glueing the ears back together with a hot glue gun.. I grabbed for the WD-40 to make the antlers look nice. Seemes to work very well and gives them a warm glow rather than a glossy fake look. How was I to know I stumbled upon an industry secret ! :) By The WAY: If anyone has any old beat-up nasty taxi animals that need to be adopted and nursed back to health, please let me know and I'd like to buy them. I'll post this in the appropriate forum also.
