WASCO has everything you need.

Jim, hate to be rude, some say I dont polish these post enough.

Really get the WASCO catalog, and the book on fish mounting!!! It really covers everything a beginner needs to know. They even sell KITS. There are many ways to do any fish and there are some additional posting here too. JUST USE the SEARCH feature or look throught the fish section.

You can use a cast body, cast head, carve a body, real head, cast the fins etc. see its more involved than what can be posted here. Good luck John C

John C hit the nail right on the head. Its hard to answer your question completely in a couple of paragraphs on this forum. Plus as you go along with your mount you will have more questions that may not get answered in time on this forum . If you get the book and readit befor you mount your fish you will find answeres to some things you may not have thought of befor.

Jim what you need is..

A good qualified taxidermist. Go and check out the studios that are near you and look for someone that does quality work. Then pay the money, and get a quality mount in return. If you knowlege of taxidermy is such that you would ask what you need to do it, the chance of you being able to put out a good looking mount on a first attempt, would be just slightly less than a boone & crocket whitetail walking into my living room and allowing me to kill him, and I live in Florida. Spend the money with a qualified pro, and you'll get what you paid for. This isen't like slapping paneling up on a bedroom wall.
good luck

YA know its not that hard to mount a fish...
AND to me if some one wants to try, the forum
is a great place to get some of those answers.Granted Jims question would require alot o space to answer and I agree that WASCO
is a great place to start. But come now GOOFBUSTER are you a Taxidermy god?? Give the
guy break !!! If he wants to try a fish he should be able to.

good advice Al

Nice point Al,except that you offered little advice in regards to the original question. I took the original question on a different level, it sounded as though Jim was less interested in learning taxidermy, but more interested in mounting this particular fish. If this fish is special to him, then I stand by my advice, seek the services of a professional taxidermist. Too many guys and gals jump into this expecting to get a nice professional looking mount from their first atempts and these kits, largely because of the way the manufacturers represent and promote them, when the reality is without a pro looking over their shoulder guiding them, they will most probably be dissappointed with their first attempts. And I will go out on a limb here and say, that while fish may be one of the easier projects to mount, they are one of the more difficult to become proficient at. Meaning that while a lifesize bear mount, might be more difficult and time consuming than a 20 inch trout is to mount, I'd bet my last dollar that the beginner is going to be happier with the end results on the bear than the fish.
Al, your pugnacious response indicated that you may have misunderstood my point. I would never intentionally discourage a newcomer from learning taxidermy, we all came from this same place, but if they have a true "trophy" that is important to them, they will likely be far happier in the end if they seek the services of a professional taxidermist. Beginners should go into this with an open mind, because those that walk out of a true professional's shop, saying to themselves, "geesh, I could do that" are going to be very sadly dissappointed.
Jim, if this is a fish trophy that is important to you, then heed my advice. If instead it is just "any" fish, and you just want to learn, then jump in. As John pointed out, WASCO is a great place to begin, and their twenty five dollar fish mounting manual, will be the best money you ever spent.
