I found a dead mink on the road in front of my home yesterday. It was struck by a car apparently, but is in very good shape. I'm thinking of having this stuffed to donate to the local elementary school. What do I need to do to preserve this through the weekend? Or is it too late? Thanks!

If it isn't already in the freezer it is probably too late.
You may want to check with your Game & Fish Dept. The season may be closed in your state and you may be in posesion of an illegal speciman.
I've heard stories of people who find some fresh animal like that and don't put it in the freezer, not to say the person with the mink didn't at least refrigerate it. Then theres the ones who think any raccoon or fox on the road at 3pm on a warm day is in good shape. Heres a tip- pretend the animal is something you would eat. A fox is like tuna salad, a raccoon is like beef. How long would it need to sit in warm air before it gets too old to safely eat? I've had idiots with roadkills with day old maggots on them and they ask " is this ok?", and it stinks too. Cmon! Also this woman neighbor who fancied herself American Indian and she picked up a roadkill fox and skinned it. Then she just let the skin sit outside, and in the sun and it got warm out. I asked her why she did such a dumb thing, and she said if she froze it it would lose its fur! Dummy it loses its fur if you don't freeze it, or at least keep it real cold and out of the sun. She wouldn't listen to me, she was so convinced it would lose fur if frozen. She was like this with deer skins too, and just let them rot too. Also she had a salted raccoon skin in her barn, and that was good, but she never got it and tanned it or anything, and the bugs ate it during the summer! Her husband was given a salted summer buffalo skin, and its been 4 years or so and i think its still in the barn, or whats left of it! What a waste! And here i am, work with fur and skins and know what i am doing, and they won't take my advice.
