Staining Whitetail Antler

Submitted by Adam on 6/3/00. ( ) 208.191.233.67

I have a pair of old antlers that unfortunately are sun bleached.
Is there a way to stain/paint or otherwise restore some color to
them? Any help would be appreciated.

Adam,

There are several good threads in the archives of this forum explaining it in much detail. Go to the left of this into the blue banner and click on "SEARCH". Enter your subject and the site will do all the hard work for you.

Thanks

I wish I would have noticed the search feature earlier. This is my
first time on the forum, I'll look there first next time.

Adam,

I receintly ran into the same problem. My partner and I kept tring everthing . We set several antlers near by for references and then tried staining . That however didn't work for us. We did finaly find a paint that when applied and then taken off would leave just enough color to make the antlers look near perfect. I wish I could remember exactly what the paint was called. This is what I do rember. We used water based paint, and it was a color that was actualy called something brown but looked more like brown / grey. We sprayed it on and then wiped it off. It was imazing how much the antlers looked like our reference antlers. I hope this helps. If you would like more info on the exact paint color then email me and I will get the color for you.
