Good yotes are bringing $5-7.00 skinned and fleshed for fur, why not triple your money by selling whole to taxidermist. JOhn C
That is an option but to my knowledge a properly skinned and dried pelt brings in $20-$40 depending on individule.
I have a lot of freind that trap, even the guys in Montana are getting $15.00 so I have bought their coyote hides for some mounts. The ones from west Texas are going for $6.00 with mountable head. Bobcats are not selling for that much ($20-$40) anywhere either. There are several warehouses full of furs, that where to be sold
overseas, since the overseas market fell through (i.e. nothing to buy them with) they are still setting in the warehouse. If you can get that much, for them, Please share the wealth, you are asking for our help, so its only fair for you to share with us also. John C
I agree the fur market is down. You still can get around 25.00 for a heavy good colored yote though. It all depends on what you have to go with it. I am a taxidermist myself. I am also from a long line of professional trappers. My father averages around 400-450 mink per season, not counting the many otter, coon, bobcat, and occasional yote. His main profits come from mink, and otter. Although the prices are down, we still manage to get 20-25 dollars for boar minks, and half for sows. We get 65.00 for good otter, and 20.00 for a well spotted cat. Like I said it all depends on the amount of desirable species you have to sell. I would suggest that you learn how to catch them all. Not only will this give you a bigger sell, it will also give you an overall greater price for your fur. Hmmmm...Should I raise my deerhead prices too?!HA
Thank's for all this help you all have given me, but I still dont know how to skin yotes. Trapping books give good info but not to the extent that hands on expierience can provide. That is why I am asking for help from expierienced people on this web site like yourselves.
When I did trap a lot some years back, Grandpa sold the hides with his, we always got more money above average than the occasional trapper. Tghis because of the volume Grandpa did. In 1973,74,75 I averged over $6000.00 in furs, but then fur prices were higher than now. Good lock, hope you can get that for yours. John C
