OK everyone help me out here. Iím a true novice. I took a taxidermy class about 12 years ago. I mounted a raccoon and a bobcat (it was all I could get a hold of). My husband killed a 12-point whitetail Christmas day (2000) and it has been in the freezer since. I used DP (I know that is an ugly word for some of you) on the raccoon and bobcat. That is what I am going to use on this deer. My questions are does the DP ever get too old to use and what should I do to the cape when I take it out of the freezer (which I hope to do in the next day or two). How should I let it thaw at room temp, should I put salt on it? Thanks for all the info you can give me.

Do not use salt.
take the cape out one evening, and it should be thawed by the next morning for you to work on.
as long as you know the deer and cape have been properly cared for, you shouldn't have any problems.
Your DP is still fine for use, just make sure you use a good hide paste. I would recommend siliconized latex caulk for you.
good Luck
