forever is a relative term, the dictionary defines it as "for always", "never coming to an end", in the taxidermy world there are too many variables too contend with. Under ideal circumstances, ie: regulated temperature and humidity etc a tanned skin may well last forever, but smoke, high/low humidity, high/low temperatures etc will take their toll and knock "forever" out of the equation. I tend to look at forever as "in my lifetime". It'll damn sure last alot longer should it not be tanned or preserved in some fashion. All tanneries charge different fees for their services but are close. It's the fashion in which they do things that makes a customer a regular client, some prefer their hides one way and others another. Wildlife Fur charges $7.25 for a rabbit hide, $6.25 for a cape and $18.00 for a lifesize [full skin for a whole rabbit mount] maybe you can find someone with an auto-tanner that can help you out and do it cheaper as it can be tossed in with something else and therefore incur no additional expense to them for chemicals and oil. I hope I've helped with your question, if not feel free to email me. Best of Luck to you........
