tumblig problem

Submitted by bill on 1/24/01. ( ) 63.89.151.17

after i wash my ducks and tumble them in wood flour. (i use an old clothes dryer.) i take my shop vac on blow and blow all the flour left in the feathers out. But the inside skin has a thin coating of wood flour dust left on it covering the entire inside skin. I am wondering if this will interfere with the borax working on the skin inside the duck? if so how can i get rid of this film? p.s i tumble the ducks 5 to 8 Mins.the dryer turns way to fast about 42 rpms. thanks hope someone can help.

I tumble my birds in corn cob grit and sometimes just plain old sawdust. I actually want to achieve a thin coating inside the bird....especially the neck and head. This allows the neck to slide in easier. Keep in mind....you want to shake the loose dust from inside the bird. Just what sticks to the skin should stay in. good luck.

You should coat the inside of the bird with borax BEFORE you tumble.
this will fix your problem, and you'll be surprised how nice your skin looks when it comes out of the tumbler.
You don't need to add any more preservative later either. your bird comes out ready to mount.
