Hand Shave

Submitted by Jim Bianchi on 1/24/01. ( Jim_Bianchi@cguusa.com ) 63.89.65.110

I've been reading old posts but still need some more help.

I'll be shaving my first WT cape this weekend after the pickle is done. Can someone explain the best way to shave using a scalpel and skife? It's a hobby mount so I don't mind the time considerations.

Will my blade actually cut into/below the skin (like peeling an apple)? Or is it more like grating/scraping it off?

If it IS more like peeling an apple skin, seems like is will be hard not to dip the blade too deep into the skin so not to cut a hole through the hair side. Any secrets or suggestions for a first timer?

Try a spot that will be cut off when you are done...like at the end of the cape to get the feel of it.
