Thought Id give taxidermy a try, as a hobby of course. Im a trapper so coming up with specimens is not a problem. I want to try a mammal pedestal mount using an Arctic Fox. Im familiar with preparing the skin (i.e. splitting ears, eyes, fleshing, etc.), I use EZ 100 for tanning. Question..
- Fox is cased, Do I need to make any cuts to the head or neck to fit to the form, I would think I could just slide it into place and tack it down.
- I cant find a Arctic Fox form, so I went ahead and purchased a Gray Fox Form
Any helpful hints.
Thanks in Advance,
Andy

you might need to cut the neck a bit the get the head thru. if you're leaving the skin cased you're gonna have to cut the legs off the form, put them in first and epoxie or bondo the legs to the body when you put the body in the cased skin. using a skin that's cased saves sewing time but can creat other problems as you go along getting the form put together in the skin.
good luck, don
Andy I am assuming you are going to do a pedestal shoulder mount cut the hide 2 inches behind legs and about 4 inches down legs make sure you have enough cape it will fit over the form (a pedestal formb0 without any cuts when finished mounting use a two part epoxey to glue hide around edge of form on back card when dry for a couple days trim with a scalpel being careful not to cut the long hairs. The hair will flow past the pedestal back. P.S. prior to mounting rough up the back of the pedestal and spray fleck stone on to present a nice back area McKenzie Supply has a how to section on pedestal backs check it out Hope this helps.
