I would like to know where you start when your ready to open a buisness. I have been working with Taxidermy for over 5 years on the side. I feel I am ready to make the plunge for full time. I am unsure what type of license or perment is needed. Could someone get me started in the right direction?
Thanks,
Ronnie

Unless you will be taking away his business, or you can call your local Dept. Of Natural Resources Office(Conservation Office).

You don't already know?

Let me get this straight. You have been doing taxidermy for 5 years now and you don't already know what kind of liscense's you may need? Why do I think this sounds funny? Have you just been doing twork for yourself for 5 years? You don't know ANYONE in the Taxidermy business in your area? I don't know where you are so I can't answer your question. It just seems strange to me that someone who has been doing work for 5 years would not already know this BASIC question. I mean 5 years is a long time. Just my 2 cents

starting up--lots to consider

Ronnie, If you do any migratory birds you must have a federal license (issued for 2 years at a time) some states require a state license -check w/your wildlife dept. You may also need local permits such as county business permits, city, or whatever your situation demands. Your local government offices can help such as county commisoners. Some areas require sign permits and may limit the size of sign. Also you might want to register your business name--done at the county seat in the Register of Deeds office, where I come from. If you dobusiness from your home check with your insurance co. to see how it might affect your home coverage. Don't assume that you are covered--you probably are not and it can cause home ins cancellation in some cases. Many community colleges have good classes for small business people and often they are very low or no cost. If you can find some classes on starting a business you will benefit greatly. There are many laws that you might easily violate doing taxidermy -be sure to get and read all of the laws of your state and the federal laws as well pertaining to taxidermy. Always opperate legally and stay in good relations with the wildlife enforcement officers in your area. This is just a little of what comes to mind. Oh yea--don't try to be the cheapest guy around--charge enough to make it worth your time because your time is what you are selling.
