I am doing a standing goose. I was wondering the best way to run the heavy leg wires through the body. is there a way to run them out the back of the bird and cutting them off under the back feathers,or would tthis not be enough support for the bird? thanks.

I would suggest that when mounting any bird make sure you use a heavy enough wire to support the bird ,no matter what species.Geese and turkeys are very large and even though the mannikin is foam,it will need adequate support,in this case I would use about an 8 ga wire.slit the feet on the goose on the bottoms where the middle toe "pad " is and remove the tendons ,This creates a tunnel to push the wire through and up through the rest of the leg until you get about 12-14 inches of wire to protrude .Wrap your drumstick at this time.Cut a point on the end of the wire and push it through the foam, where there are usually marked points where the legs should attach. Once you get the hang of where the legs go you can use a wrapped body if you like.Once through the opposite side bend the wires 180 degrees and shove them back through so they come through the first side then bend it over into the foam. This way the wire cannot turn or slide while positioning. leave yourself enough wire under the feet to secure it to your base. The wings are treated the same way if the wings are to be in flight position use an 8 ga wire also .If the wings are to be folded then you can use a lighter gauge wire .
