Please explain the difference between a dual action and a single action brush and what are the pro's and con's of one over the other. I know everyone has a preference over a brand and that is usually what they have learned on.
THank you!

well, A single action airbrush is basically a constant setting of paint to air mix and a double action you have the ability to change the ratio as you paint. The advantage to the single action is that when you have your brush set -say for spots, you just paint. The big advantage a dbl has over this is that it has a setting wheel on top that lets you set your spot size (In a sense you can make a double action a single action by setting your ratio with the wheel, but not the other way around)like having two brushes in your hand. I have 3 double action brushes.I hope this helps
SINGLE ACTION-push the button paint and aor both cone out
DUAL ACTION-push the button for air, pull it back for paint.
you can set a dual action to paint like a single.
If you are going to be airbrushing a lot or especially if you are going to do a lot of fish, I would suggest dual. A little harder to get used to but in the end you will be happier. I like a paasche VL-3
The cheapest place that I have found them is Jerry's Artarama
1-800-UARTIST. Airbrushes are very frustrating, resist the urge to throw it in the trash, and you'll get the hang of it eventually.
