sticky water

Just made some icicles with polytranspar artificial water, They came out quite sticky. It was my first time using this stuff and do'nt really know the exact amount of catalist per resin. Can anyone tell me why they came out so sticky and maybe the exact number of drops of catalist for a half cup of resin? The container gives amounts by weight but I only have a scale that measures 1/4 oz. incriments. Thanks All.

I don't know why it really does this sometimes. No matter what I like to make mine a litte hotter-with the catalyst. This will help.

Now to fix your problem you will need to get a resin spray they sell. Just spray this on and your sticky problems will go away. If you can't wait for it to come through the mail, check with you local art stores. They sell the same resin spray.

There is a problem with over catalyizing

You can smoke the resin or discolor it, sometimes even it will get hot enough to crack it.

For best results get the spray resin to cover it and stop the stickieness. John C

You can try to add-

A product called "surfacing agent" that WASCO sells. The artificial water that WASCO sells works and seems to be casting resin. Being that casting resin is the least to heat up like their cousins laminating, sanding, etc. These types of casting resin also does not contain parafin or a wax additive causing the casting resin to cure with a tacky surface.
Your best bet will be to try and experiment with the surfacing agent, it works for me. If it doesn't work for you, follow what Frank and John said in the previous post of the spray resin finish. I found that spray to be a great way to tie in the gloss look of your whole scene. Good Luck, Layne
