I have been checking the archives and searching but can't seem to find much on this subject. Pretty much figured out about removal and cleaning but will they only go back on in the proper position? Attach before the cape is applied? Don't know that much about these critters. Thanks for any help!

too long before it "let's go" and it can be embarrassing when a customer picks up the head by the horns and is left only holding a horn. I cut the cores off leaving about 6 or8 inches of the base to epoxy the sheath on to, reason for this is they tend to twist while drying making it almost [and often] impossible to put the sheaths back on. Yes, attach horn sheaths before mounting cape so you can properly position the hair patterns around the horn base, best of luck to you!
i always put a mark where the core and bottom of the sheath meet.
after cleaning out the inside of the sheath, it will be able to go down farther on the core than it was originally. after the sheath is cleaned and dried out i just use a good epoxy and bring the sheath down to my mark on the core. that might be being a little picky but it's accurate.
good luck, don
After getting all that crud out of the horn and off the core, I also cut part of the core off. Then I set the horns back on so they dont warp. I mount the sheep with the horns on the sheath, with the choice of taking them off and on again, then I attach the horn to the core last. I can move the skin around better, it weighs less, and I can adjust the height after rebuilding the "cuticle" under the edge.
We first let the horns basically rot off the core in a tank of water (also how we do Euros'). Then, cut the core shorter. We then put a little dry preserve inside the horn (to keep smell down, and bugs out), and let core and horns dry together for a few days. Once dry, clean the core and first few inches inside horn up with a wire brush. Then we Bondo the horn to the core, and have done it this way for years with good results. Good luck.
