Help with a repaired horn

Submitted by Jack PARSON on 2/23/01. ( jparson@clas.net ) 208.18.100.185

I repaired a broken antler tip on a whitetail with magic
sculp and I am having problems painting it to match the
rest of the antler. The antler is creamy white with dark
chocolate steaks and dark bases. Any help on painting it
would be appreciated. Thanks Jack

Jack have you check the search button for this. There ia a lot out there on how to do it.
You can paint it lightly steel wool and repaint with a wash.
Some have used coffee grains for staining them.
Plus there are many other stains that color them.

Now your saying there are some brown streaks in the antlers, Did you when you repaired it but some scratches back in the tip you made? If not you should. In return when you lay the brown down and then wipe off the brown will stay in the cracks for you. If you did't take a wood file and be carefull so you don't go to deep you can make some light scratches in the work you repaired.

Also next time mix up some paint with you epoxy to get the base color. The rest is easy if you can match the base color first.
