Amy: it depends on what state you live in...Our shop is in Texas where there is no licensing for taxidermists. Of course we still need a DBA (doing Business as), and to be registered with the state comptrollers office for state taxing purposes. Check with your state wildlife service, and they should be able to point you to the proper avenues to keep you legal. Good Luck PS: Dealing with waterfowl does require a federal permit.
