I have heard there is a difference in manufacturers WT forms as far facial length in northern and southern whitetails. Is this true? I've been using McKenzie forms with no problems on our South Texas deer, but I'm hesitant to try others because of this.
Thanks for your help.
Wayne, I don't think you understood what you heard. Eye to nose measurements are the same from one supplier to the next 6 1/2 Inches is 6 1/2 inches no matter how you measure it. I think you may have this confused with the head width some suppliers mold into their forms. I am not going to divulge a certain suppliers name, but have mounted ONE deer on their form and the thing had a head like a horse, not very anotomically correct in MY opinion. As far as most suppliers go. Southern deer for the most part have slimmer heads than their northern brothers, but they also are larger bodied. Most reputable suppliers take the required measurements and mold everything to the correct proportions, so you shouldn't have any problems with the proper fit. I also use McKenzie for about 99% of all my shoulder mounts, and have had excellent results on our coastal NC deer, as well as deer from your region. Just recently mounted a couple large northern deer on McKenzie forms, and they to were well proportionate for their measurements. Other suppliers I've used with good results are Buckeye, WASCO,Joe Meder(who is now part of McKenzie for those that were'nt aware),Noonkester, and Joe Coombs so don't be afraid to try others out, just make sure you have the proper measurements to start with and you should'nt have any problems. Good Luck. Marc R
Wayne I also use alot of McKenzie forms for my S. Tx deer but Ben Mears forms fit really good on those mule headed, lop ear brutes the brush country churns out every now and again. Give one a try for comparision and I'm sure you'll like them.
