I am about to clean some deer skulls. I need to know what to wrap the antlers with so they don't turn white while bleaching, and what is a good product to use to coat the skulls in once they are cleaned and bleached. I have been told floor wax, but what brand works the best. Thanks, Gary
Gary,
Go to WASCO's web site and order a small bag of salsoda.
after you boil your skulls in salsoda the meat will easily be scraped off. Let dry. Then brush your skulls with hydrogen peroxide and leave in the sun for a few days. They will come out great.
NEVER soak in bleach. The bleach will get soaked up through the pedical. the longer you soak, the further the bleach will be soaked up the pedical. soaking skulls in bleach will also cause them to flake and deteriorate.
As far as coatings, I never used them. I like the dry look.
