I know this is a stupid question but here goes, I was told by my Aunts ex-husband that you HAVE to go to school to do taxidermy, it this right? The way I look at it, if you was sapose to go to school only, then way would they have all these great learning books and tapes? Where I live there is no classes that are offered that are in my area and I sure don't want to drive 40 miles to take a class. Can any one help?

Sue,
Now we know why your aunt dumped him. Taxidermy isn't like mechanical engineering where there are set standards and practices controlled by law. It is more like a cooking class where the only recipes you can expect to learn are those that your instructor uses. They are super for learning techniques and as a foundation, but they still tend to vary. It is MUCH easier to learn from books and tapes BEFORE you spend money on a class. That way you'll learn terms and terminology so you won't ask silly questions that the instructor would expect you to already know.

You could use some schooling

School

I went to school. If you have the time and money I recommend it.
I learn better by doing it than reading about it or watching a video. some of the finest taxidermists I know are self taught, or learned from videos. I will say that there are some good videos out there.

Be careful and pick a good school. I did, but I have heard about some bad experiences. Good Luck!
