I've recently purchased a squirrel mounting kit from cabela's. The instructions state that the squirrel should be sprayed for insects such as (mites,lice,etc.). What type of spray are they referring to. Would it be any household insect spray such as raid? Any help would be appreciated as I would like to be completely prepared before attempting my first mount.

I may be wrong, but I never have done this. Borax acts like moth proofer and it helps alot. I saw in a seminar that you can put moth balls hid in your bases to further help. As to your question though you can spray with raid if you want in a habitat i know but i do not know about the mount.

Unfortunately mammels, that we mount, play host to critters that can bite us, or transfer deseases to humans and our pets. Some of the deseases can be life threatening. Any good insecticide can be sprayed on these mammels to kill the pests. I even spray deer. I have had ticks bore into me and I have no desire to get lymes desease or rocky mountain spoted fever. Hunta virus and others have been attributed to small mammels. An ounce of prevension! I am only makeing a fuss about this because many don't know.
Spray em down

Just freeze everything, I do! Then you don't have to deal with dangerous chemicals. Three days to a week should do it!
