I have mixed results in bleaching skulls. They seem to get chalky and thin. I soak them in white gas prevous to the bleach to remove the oil. Anybody got a recipe for bleach bath (or anything else) that won't eat the bone? How long should I soak the skull to get it white but not dissolve it?

Use hydrogen peroxide to bleech them. Store grade. Cover them completely with peroxide in a plastic container and let them soak overnight were gloves when removing, the next day give them a hot water bath. Let the soak in hot tap water for 20 min. Take them out and change the water. repeat 3 times and then let them air dry. They will turn pure white and not be chalky. You can also use commercial strength peroxide but I'm not sure of the procedure.
